Concerned About the Safety of Your Child's Party?

By Stephanie Vacchio

With summer quickly approaching it is no surprise that inflatable party rentals will be an extremely popular party request. These inflatables are a fun, cost effective way to take your event to the next level. They are a great addition to children's birthday parties, but some parents worry about safety and liability issues when renting an inflatable for a child's party. Here are some tips on how to ensure the safety of all party guests if you rent an inflatable.

Every inflatable company should have proper licenses and insurance. This is extremely important and you will want to check whether or not the business you are renting from is license. If they are not a legitimate business they may not supply you with the best in quality and customer care. This can mean that their inflatables are old, have not been properly repaired after a rip, or employees are not properly trained in how to operate an inflatable. Many companies will be more than willing to display business licenses in their office or storefront and membership in organizations such as the Better Business Bureau on their website. Check for these signs of good business and also research reviews on the company before you do business with them.

Properly manufactured inflatables should keep quality and safety in mind. Good inflatables will have a "safety ramp" for child to easily enter and exit from. Units should have commercial grade vinyl and quadruple stitching. Reputable businesses that put safety first will also provide a list of guidelines for behavior inside the inflatable so that children and chaperones are aware of how they should behave in order to ensure safety for everyone. Additionally, companies that put safety first will also regulate the number of children inside the inflatable at one time. If a company does not include this in their guideline for safety it may be a hazard.

A professional from the inflatable company should always set up the inflatable at your party. This is extremely important to note, as inflatables of extremely large sizes require special attention. It is imperative that the inflatable is set up properly to make sure that it does not deflate while children are inside of it. Professionals will use proper materials to secure the inflatable to the ground. Do not try to secure the inflatable with "make shift" tools. This will simply add a hazard to an otherwise safe structure.

If you see that a professional does not secure the inflatable to the ground or places it less than 30 feet away from a pool then you should call the owner of the company immediately! There is no excuse for a lack of safety procedures, especially when there are children involved.
