Movie Fun Savings For Families

By Harvey Warner

It's always fun for families to get together for a good movie, at the theater or even at home. Hollywood has taken strides to become more family friendly, so families have lots of titles to choose from.

If you're not sure about a certain movie's content, go online and do your research. The rating is not always reliable, but they give at least some kind of indication. It's hard to believe that certain movies are rated PG.

The cost of movies has gone up along with most other items on the market. Depending on what city you live in you can expect to spend $7 to $10 or more for an adult ticket and about $2 less for children under 12. Discounts are available for students who provide a valid school ID.

Ticket prices vary depending on what time you go to the theater. The majority of theater offer lower prices on matinees. These movies are shown earlier than 5PM.

Some theaters also have super value days when you get matinee prices all day. Super value days are usually on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the typically slower days for them. Too bad that one can't go at a specific time and get discounts on food items at the concession stand.

It's always possible to find a dollar movie theater, or in the least one that sells tickets for less. They show the same films as other movie theater but they show them a few weeks later than the other theaters. It's not big deal to wait a few weeks for a good savings.

You'll probably also save money on popcorn, candy and drinks but perhaps have to forgo some comforts like stadium seating. Most discount movies are shown in the older theaters and may not be as plush as the modern ones.

Drive-ins are still open in some cities, and offer a special night of fun for everyone. Some offer first run movies at a discount or even allow the entire carload to get in for one price. Drive-in movies are great for families, since you can bring your own food along and even sit outside the car on a lounge chair if you prefer. It's great to bring your own chairs and be able to get out of the car.

Drive-In movies are gaining popularity in pools and parks. Some pools and parks make free movies and popcorn available to families. Families are enjoying the benefit of watching the movie while they are in the water or while lounging poolside.

Have a movie night at home for the family. Go a little farther than just renting a movie, and create a movie theater atmosphere. Pop some popcorn for the aroma and darken the room. With a DVD, you're in control and can schedule an intermission for bathroom breaks and snacks of pickles, candy and ice cream in addition to the popcorn.

Movie clubs are great because they save you money and allow you to get your movies by mail. You can put your movie back into the mail after watching it and they will send you a new one. Some families have a lot of fun choosing movies together. Movies can provide a wonderful mean to spend time all together at a price you can afford.
