A fantastic LEGO set, the LEGO Black Pearl

By Tyson Ramthun

From Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean comes a fantastic new LEGO set, the LEGO Black Pearl. It's got over 800 blocks, and includes six characters from the movie. Once the model is finished, it stands almost 2 feet high and 21 inches long, which forms an amazing kit that can be great for play or as a stand alone display product.

In addition to the regular LEGO blocks, you will find black fabric sails, providing the set a whole level of quality. The set includes 3 instruction booklets, and a sizeable size poster .

This set includes the below:

- 804 pieces in total.

- Measures 21 inches long x 20 inches high x 5 inches wide.

- Six figures including Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Joshamee Gibbs, Davy Jones, Maccus and Bootstrap Bill.

- Features include detailed interior cabin, firing canons, black fabric sails, Jolly Roger pirate flag and anchor.

- Suitable for ages 8-14.

To begin with, this makes a superb LEGO set for youngsters aged between 8-14. For the kids it's a difficult puzzle to work with, but not excessively difficult. For example, a youngster around eight to tens years old could assemble it within a few hours, possibly with help from a grown-up on a few parts, but overall it will be an enjoyable experience for them.

Once complete, the ship does look wonderful, and there's lots that a youngster can do with it as much as play goes. Captain Jack's detailed cabin to explore, the firing cannons and detachable floorboards are just some of the functions of the package.

The black fabric sails really improve the piece, and actually does a fantastic job of reproducing the atmosphere of the film. LEGO could possibly have satisfied themselves with using just plastic, nevertheless the fabric does offer an excellent contrast. Even if not played with, it makes for a fine display ship.

Depending on where you go shopping, this set can cost you a fair bit, therefore isn't the greatest value for the moneyHowever, there are many places in which the kit is sold for less than LEGO's recommended retail price, which happens to be great.

There are rare times when bits of blocks have been missed out, there's little else to say that is actually bad about the product. Most unfavorable issues with this product are actually minor and shouldn't affect your decision to buy it or not.

All in all, this set is very nice and recreates the Pirates series well. The included six figures are a great bonus, as extra figures help fill the deck and make the ship look busy. Plus they provide much more play choices for children. It is both a thrilling experience to build and incredibly playable as well. We give this unit a definite thumbs up.
