Your bones are very important for these serve as the framework of your body and also protects the different organs in it. There are many diseases that could comprise these functions of the skeletal system. A very good example of this is OI or osteogenesis imperfecta. According to the osteogenesis imperfecta book, this is a kind of disease where one is born with very weak bones.

Also known as brittle bone disease, OI is a condition that is congenital in nature. People with OI have a problem with a certain kind of collagen causing brittleness and also bone problems. To treat those with this condition, doctors would focus on treating fractured bones, weight management, diet, supplements, and exercises that are safe and good for the muscles. Others result to surgical intervention.

Anyone diagnosed with brittle bone disease can have a good prognosis especially when diagnosed early or the condition is mild. There is a good chance for patients to still have a good life expectancy as long as the condition is managed well. Just like other diseases, the prognosis will increase the sooner the diagnosis will happen.

Things, however, do not just become alright once the disease has been diagnosed and treatments have been delivered. For the patient and their loved ones there are still problems that they need to face. Living with OI can be very difficult. For this reason, it is necessary for those affected to find ways to be able to cope with it properly.

There are different things that patients and families can do for them to cope with what it happening. A good example is to join a support group that helps patients with OI. Healthcare providers can also help you by giving you all the information you need. Reading books, journals, and articles would also be very helpful.

One reason as to why the measures mentioned can be very helpful is it helps patients gain more information. When a person is sick, the lack of information will only make him feel worse. Patients are advised to always be well informed about what is happening to them by doing research, asking questions, and discussing with those that they known can help them out.

A good understanding about what is happening to you can help you in so many ways. For one, this allows you to deal with the disease properly so it will not stop you from being happy. To be knowledgeable also helps allays fears and anxiety that could be very crippling and cause you have an unhappy life.

Sharing your experiences with others is one way for you to effectively cope with the situation. It helps that you will have an outlet in which you can vent all of your fears and other negative emotions. It will also help make you feel better to know that you are not alone.

Whether you will read an osteogenesis imperfecta book or join a support group, the only thing that matters is that you are doing everything you can to cope. It is up to the patient to decide whether he would let the disease get the better of him or not. One has to keep in mind that staying positive can also help.
