What To Consider Before Visiting A Tattoo Studio

By Mattie MacDonald

Tattooing the body involves introducing ink pigments into pierced skin to make permanent marks. The introduced pigments become visible as ink. The business where this process is done is referred to as a tattoo studio. Artists who specialize in tattoos are called tattooists. Since the piercing process makes contact with blood vessels, the process can be a source of many dangers to the individual being tattooed.

The process of getting a tattoo requires the skin, which is a protective layer for the body to be perforated. Perforated skin is vulnerable to infections and other health risks. Health problems of getting tattoos are many hence, one should exercise some caution to avoid getting infected. This article outlines safety steps one needs to take before they walk into a tattoo shop to be tattooed.

First, one should know that the Food and Drug Administration does not impose any restrictions on the additives added into the inks used for tattooing. This means that there is no way of knowing if the additives are safe or not. The FDA only responds to problems that occur due to tattooing. This should be able to inform one that the process may have some unattended to health and other risks.

The first step one must take is to determine if shops in an area need to be registered or licensed to operate. Contacting the state department of public health is the easiest way of finding this out. The health office also has list of all registered shops in the area that one can peruse through. Attention should be paid to complaints that were filed previously by clients. Such information should be based on when trying to choose the shop to go into.

The next step after identifying various registered shops in an area is to try and understand how their instruments are sterilized. It is mandatory for the shop to have an autoclave for sterilization. Needles should be used once and disposed off and every client must be treated with a separate needle. Also, hygiene levels of the studio must be very high. Artists must use detergents to wash their hands clean after working on a client. Use of gloves separate gloves on each person should be ensured.

Once the conditions are confirmed to be safe, it is time to get personal with the artist. This should involve asking about the level of training and certifications earned. To confirm this, it is safer to request to see the certificates. If the person is reluctant, it may imply that they are not qualified for the job because most people are normally proud to reveal such information.

The working of the artist can also tell a lot about the studio. Therefore, one should request to stay around while a client is being worked on. One can confirm all they needed to during this time. There should be no haste in walking away if safety precautions are broken.

One should not trade quality of service with low cost. One gains more by paying more money but staying safe from infections. Failure to understand this makes people to go for cheap services but get infected by serious infections.
