By Lisa Carter

Generally, accelerated learning is a technique of learning that is helpful in assisting a person organize, arrange and absorb information at a higher speed. The fact is, since the creation of printing press, people are mostly exposed to information that is presented in the written word. As a result, it is essential that people learn how to collect and assimilate the written word in a way that saves time and energy through accelerated reading.

Essentially, there is the continued expansion and increased influence of multimedia-web-services as opposed to written word that somehow is losing a bit of ground. Nonetheless, it remains to be the prevalent and most popular way of presenting information even in this modern world. Even though it may be argued as a major reason for overload of information, it also piles lots of pressure on information gatherers that work towards generating some meaning to present to the world.

From a young age, people are usually conditioned and trained methods to absorb the written word in different ways. Most people are first taught pronunciation techniques of one alphabetical letter at a time. Next, people are introduced to read short words and are guided to pronounce each letter in the word as an individual character prior to verbalizing the word as a whole.

As people grow older, they gain more experience as they read, and naturally progress to read larger words as they learn to verbalize these words in totality. This enhances as well as improves their reading speed. Nonetheless, for most people, their progression ends at this point. In consequence, this marks the beginning of a lifelong pattern in which learning becomes ineffective hence presenting an inefficient strategy in the absorption of large amounts of information to their mind.

There are different techniques used to improve how a person reads. One such technique is speed reading principle. The technique involves skimming, chunking, identifying and filtering certain pieces of information in order to accelerate learning. While skimming the information, you get an overall image of the subject without losing the meticulous details.

In chunking, you put together the relevant aspects the same way you chunk individual letters into words. This helps to assimilate sentences and paragraphs in a quick succession. At the same time, you can filter or identify information that is not relevant in helping you understand the topic. Speed reading not only involves how to read quickly but involves analysis process of assimilating the information to help learn the information quickly.

Another method used to accelerate how you read is a photo-reading principle. This involves a preconscious kind of awareness that naturally cause creativity, quick information assimilation while paving a way to non-judgmental learning. In this case, you shut-off the conscious mind from the learning cycle. Although the conscious mind is important in inducing your long and short-term memory, it can be a hindrance because of the preconceived ideas and notions on the information you are reading.

The advantages of learning to read in accelerated speeds may significantly lessen your study efforts and time. It improves your comprehension speed and assimilation of fresh information.
